Repeatedly insulted, the teenager jumped into the river from the launch

A teenager named Kabita (13) jumped into the Meghna river from a launch named Karnafuli-13 in Bhola's Tajumuddin upazila. He was later rescued with the help of local fishermen and treated at the Tajumuddin Upazila Health Complex. After recovering there, he was taken into police custody at Tajumuddin police station on Sunday night.

On Sunday evening, the girl jumped from Karnafuli-13, a passenger launch on Char Fashion's Betua-Dhaka route.

Tajumuddin Police Station OC SM Ziaul Haque said at night, we have talked to the girl. He told us that he climbed Karnafuli-13 from Chaumhoni Ghat of Tajumuddin for Dhaka alone. While sitting next to a cabin, one of the launch staff asked him to stay with him in the cabin for the night for 200 rupees. The teenager got angry when she heard about the staff and left. Then a woman went to the passenger's bed as she was calling for the launch and she picked him up from the bed. This made him even angrier and he jumped into the river from the launch with pride. At that time, local fishermen rescued him and admitted him to Tajumuddin Upazila Health Complex.

The OC also said that the girl had jumped into the river from a trawler once before. Besides, last 2/3 months ago, while he was in Char Mozammel with his grandmother, he came to Tajumuddin and evaded his grandmother and went to the house of a rickshaw puller. Later, her grandmother came to us and I rescued her myself.

We have talked to the family of the girl, they have told us that they will come to Tajumuddin tomorrow. However, no complaint has been lodged with the police station yet.
