Former health DG says 'nothing new'

 



Abul Kalam Azad, former director general of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), told reporters after a second day of questioning by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on allegations of corruption in the health department's contract with Regent Hospital for collecting and treating coronavirus samples.

After a long speech, Abul Kalam Azad claimed to be as efficient and talented as the previous day and mentioned the Covid-19 infection and death rate in Europe and America and praised the management of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in controlling it in Bangladesh.



Azad, who was forced to resign from the post of director general of the health department in the face of criticism over corruption in the purchase of health equipment and extreme mismanagement in dealing with corona, said, "Thank you, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He has coordinated and activated all the organs of government. His timely and strong leadership has kept the Corona situation in the country at a tolerable level. 'He claimed that the country's social and economic activities are now almost normal.


Abul Kalam Azad came to the ACC office in Segunbagichar around 10 am. He left at 3:40 in the afternoon. ACC director Sheikh Mohammad. Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, director (public relations) of the agency, told reporters that he was interrogated by an investigation team led by Fanafilla.


Azad said, "If anyone commits a crime, he should be severely punished. This is what I want. I will provide all necessary assistance in the investigation in this regard.

Earlier in the day, ACC Director Mir Mohammad was arrested as part of an investigation into allegations of corruption in the purchase of substandard masks, PPEs and other health equipment during the coronavirus epidemic. A team led by Zainul Abedin Shibli interrogated Azad for about five hours.
