5 killed in Van-Laguna ditch after head-on collision
Five people were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway at Harbang station in Harbang union of Chakaria upazila. The incident took place around 6.15 pm on Wednesday. Highway police seized two vehicles. However, the police have not been able to confirm the identity of the victims so far (7.30 pm).
According to locals and highway police, a Chittagong-bound covered van collided head-on with a Chakuna-bound Laguna at Harbang station area around 6.15pm today. At that time both the vehicles fell into the ditch on the side of the highway. 8 to 10 passengers of Laguna were injured in this. They were rescued and taken to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex where five people died. One's legs have become detached from the body. He was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Health and Family Planning Officer of Chakaria Upazila Health Complex Mohammadul Haque confirmed the death of five people in the first light. He said the bodies of the five killed have been handed over to the highway police. One has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Chiringa Highway Police Inspector Anisur Rahman told Prothom Alo that the identities of the five killed have not been identified yet. Two vehicles involved in the accident were seized and brought to the police outpost.
